The Prodigal Son - Story Summary:

The story of the Prodigal Son, also known as the Parable of the Lost Son, follows the parables of the Lost Sheep and the Lost Coin. Jesus is responding to the Pharisees' complaint: "This man welcomes sinners and eats with them."

Jesus tells the story of a man who has two sons. The younger son asks his father to give him his portion of the family estate as an early inheritance. Once received, the son promptly sets off on a long journey to a distant land and begins to waste his fortune on wild living. When the money runs out, a severe famine hits the country and the son finds himself in dire circumstances. He takes a job feeding pigs. He is so destitute that he even longs to eat the food assigned to the pigs.

The young man finally comes to his senses, remembering his father. In humility, he recognizes his foolishness, decides to return to his father and ask for forgiveness and mercy. The father who had been watching and waiting, receives his son back with open arms of compassion. He is overjoyed by the return of his lost son! Immediately the father turns to his servants and asks them to prepare a giant feast in celebration.

Meanwhile, the older son is not one bit happy when he comes in from working the fields and discovers a party going on to celebrate his younger brother's return. The father tries to dissuade the older brother from his jealous rage explaining, "You are always with me, and everything I have is yours."

Points of Interest from the Story:

• Typically, a son would receive his inheritance at the time of his father's death. The fact that the younger brother instigated the early division of the family estate showed a rebellious and proud disregard for his father's authority, not to mention a selfish and immature attitude.

• Pigs were unclean animals. Jews were not even allowed to touch pigs. When the son took a job feeding pigs, even longing for their food to fill his belly, it reveals that he had fallen as low as he could possibly go. This son represents a person living in rebellion to God. Sometimes we have to hit rock-bottom before we come to our senses and recognize our sin.

• The father is a picture of the Heavenly Father. God waits patiently, with loving compassion to restore us when we return to him with humble hearts. He offers us everything in his kingdom, restoring full relationship with joyful celebration. He doesn't even dwell on our past waywardness.

• Reading from the beginning of chapter 15, we see that the older son is clearly a picture of the pharisees. In their self-righteousness, they have forgotten to rejoice when a sinner returns to God. Bitterness and resentment keeps the older son from forgiving his younger brother. It blinds him to the treasure he freely enjoys through constant relationship with the father.

Questions for Reflection:

Who are you in this story? Are you a prodigal, a pharisee or a servant? Are you the rebellious son, lost and far from God? Are you the self-righteous pharisee, no longer capable of rejoicing when a sinner returns to God? Maybe you've hit rock-bottom, come to your senses and decided to run to God's open arms of compassion and mercy? Or are you one of the servants in the household, rejoicing with the father when a lost son finds his way home?

Passion or Compasion? That is the question right?

According to the American Heritage Dictionary; Passion is a Noun.
     1.  A powerful emotion, such as love, joy, hatred, or anger
     2.  Ardent love.
     3.  Strong sexual desire; lust.
     4.  The object of such love or desire.
      5.  Passion
           The sufferings of Jesus in the period following the Last Supper and including the Crucifixion, as related in    the New Testament. He experienced PASSION yet without LUST yet craving to SAVE the lost with an AGAPE LOVE, that did not include the sinful lusts as we know it today.  Jesus did not LUST for women and men for sexual passion, yet he GAVE his LOVE, and COMPASSION to seek to save those that wanted to be rescued from the demonic forces of the world they so lived in.  The times in which we live according to the scriptures are EVIL and WICKED, yet GOD found in his PASSION and COMPASSION for us to deliver to us a SON, begotton by a VIRGIN a pure woman of the Most high that could give life to the one and only true Messiah, that is Jesus Christ.  He came born of a Virgin to prove to mankind and all human kind that though we were born into this world through the womb of a woman who was from the Garden dismissed because of disbobedience to GOD in eating the forbidden fruit, yet Jesus himself came delivered of that same woman without SIN a pure supernatural child born WITHOUT SIN to take on the SINS of the world someting NO HUMAN BORN OF A NATURAL MAN COULD DO AND NEVER WILL DO, JESUS IS THE ONLY SUPERNATURAL BEING EVER TO ACCOMPLISH THIS AND HE IS THE ONLY SUPERNATURAL POWER TO SAVE ANYONE WHO IS LOST BUT YOU MUST FIRST ACCEPT THIS AND BELIEVE IT........


The human PASSIONS that believers surround our lives with are powerful yet may or may not be joyful.  It will make us feel some type of emotion, love, hatred, anger or it might appeal to the lust of the eye, the pride of life such as strong sexual desire, lust, desire.  Yet, the PASSION that believers share infinitely involves the Sufferings of Jesus as related in the New Testament.


COMPASSION:  Means to pity.  To feel or show sympathy.  It is used as an adjective to describe an emotion that is directed toward or granted to an individual circumstances as a means to understanding what they are dealing with o going through granted in an emergency or some unusual circumstances.


When Jesus first spoke of suffering to his followers, they felt afraid. They were like us in wishing for comfortable, untroubled lives. In taking up his cross, Jesus taught his followers to face suffering rather than to flee it. The hope of glory lies ahead for those who follow his example of infinite love.

The phrase “abiding in Christ” pictures an intimate, close relationship, and not just a superficial acquaintance. In John 15:4-7, Jesus tells His disciples that having salvation is essential, using the picture of branches united to a vine. Without that vital union with Christ which salvation provides, there can be no life and no productivity. Elsewhere, the Bible likens this union to that of a head and a body (Colossians 1:18).

Imagine if you were Passionate about seeking GOD for his purpose for your life.  Jesus his son was sent to save us because GOD has COMPASSION therefore JESUS' Passion includes everything we feel, yet he healed us from our hurts and pains to deliver us unto GOD as pure and acceptable.  Whatever  we have gone through or may have suffered through, Jesus prayed for us and asked GOD to forgive us of our sins, yet while suffering for our sins, he was without sin himself, therefore taking on the sins of the world to have mercy on us, was something only HE COULD DO, JESUS the SON OF GOD to SAVE US FROM HELL DAMNATION/SIN.  You must be accepting of GOD's SON in order to be saved because without the shedding of blood, his blood there is NO REMISSION FOR SIN, NONE.  There is none more righteous than the other yet we BECOME the righteousness of GOD by asking for fogiveness and accepting Jesus the Messiah  as our Lord and savior.  Asking him to take over our life and life in us so that we may ABIDE in the life Christ so wants for us......Jesus...sacrificed his life so that we can go to GOD boldly and obtain the mercy and grace we so deserve through the initial birthing of Humans in the world before Sin came into existence. 


 God so loved us yet he was disappointed with our sin. We claim him as our Passion, yet deny the compassion of his son and what his love for us had to endure so that we can have a right to the tree of life, that life in GOD to live eternally.  (read John 3)


Satan seeks to devour and destroy us, yet Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, therefore the sin question has been answered, there is none, no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, the PASSION/COMPASSION of GOD........GOD SO LOVED US, that is PASSION, that HE GAVE his ONLY SON, that is COMPASSION.......make up your mind today if you are a believer to accept this as your truth in living for the Lord and ask his precious spirit to lead you daily in your Passions and Compassions for everyone you encounter......
